Update On Me

As of April 25, 2001-

My doc called.  They still don't know what the weird spot on the CT scan is.  The radiologist does not think it is an abscess, so must be something else. Regardless of what it is, I will be having surgery again soon to replace this j-tube and move my tube to another part of my bowel.  I will be seeing a surgeon about this soon.  This will be my third j-tube surgery.  Please keep me in your prayers.  I am very upset about this latest news.

As of April 23, 2001-

I went for a CT scan this afternoon.  After the radiologists brought a lot of doctors to look at my scan, one of them came out and told me what was happening.  They saw something that they can't really identify.  They say it may be some dead bowel, or a big abscess but they can't really determine anything at this time.  They were going to compare this scan to my scan a couple of months ago.  They almost wanted me to stay, but then decided they can't do anything for me tonight anyways, so they sent me home.  I saw my GI doc before the scan.  He said regardless of what the scan shows, he thinks it is time to pull this tube out and put it in somewhere else.  Bad news is this time the procedure will be more extensive than the last time, and as extensive as the procedure done in 1996.  I already have so much scar tissue, but taking this tube out may be the only solution.  I am losing some weight and my potassium is still running low.  This tube has never really worked well for me.  My doc said this needs to be done sooner rather than later. I should get more info on Tuesday, April 24.  I am not sure how they plan on identifying what this is, but regardless the tube needs to be replaced.  Not happy about that, but I do know that it may be the only way to get things under better control.

As of April 11, 2001-

I saw my cardiologist on Tuesday as well as my PCP.  My heart is still irregular, and my potassium is low, but my cardiologist thinks it is connected to my fever, etc.  I am also slightly dehydrated.  I still have a temp going from 100-101.4 and nobody knows why.  My blood cultures showed no problems.  I also am still having some posterior bloody noses, as well as a long list of other new problems including some spotting on my hands.  I am scheduled for another abdominal CT scan on April 23 to see if the infection has moved or is still in the same location.  I am still in a good deal of pain.  In the meantime, I am supposed to keep track of my fever and symptoms and notify my doc of any major changes if I get worse.  My GI doc has mentioned the possibility of trying another type of j-tube if things can't get under control, but that would be a last resort.  Monday was a really rough day.  I was very very nauseous and puking up acid because I had not eaten (worse than puking up undigested food) so I have asked for a new form of phenergan as well as another stronger anti nausea med.

I went back to see my PCP (primary care physician) on Friday.  My BP was way way high for me, pulse 120, fever 100.3, still sob, weak, achy, bloody nose, etc.  I scared her so she sent me right over to the ER.  After 5 1/2 hours and a chest x-ray, abdominal x-ray, tubes of blood, urine test, EKG, and heart monitor, I still knew nothing.  They knew I felt terrible but said they couldn't keep me there without a diagnosis.  I cried the whole way home.  I need some answers.  I am waiting for my PCP to call me back today because my temp has still been over 100 and up to 101.4 at times.
