Feeling Crappy?

Gastroparesis FAQ's

Whether you're feeling crappy because you woke up that way, or because you could no longer resist that craving for a supreme pizza, I have some tips that might help you feel better.

1.  If you're sick from eating something stupid, go for a walk.  I know that's the last thing you feel like doing, but it will help your stomach empty your food.  Laying down would be the worst thing to do.

2.  If you really can't handle a walk, at least sit up in a chair.  The gravity will help your stomach digest.

3.  Soak in a warm bath.  I've never actually tried this one for nausea, but some people say it helps.  This is also good to boost your energy and mood on a bad day.

4.  Some people say that drinking clear liquids helps them feel better.  You'll have to try it.  You may not be able to keep it down, but it might help.  It might also make you feel worse!

5.  Call a friend.  You may not feel like talking, but it at least will get your mind off of it for a bit.  A little humor makes everyone feel better.

6.  Listen to some soothing music.  This will help you relax, and relaxing will help your stomach digest.

7.  If you're low on energy, try doing something useful that doesn't require much energy.  Make a construction paper person, color a picture, or something else you enjoy doing.  It won't wear you out too much, and will keep you from becoming a couch potato.

8.  If you do #7 for somebody, it will make you feel even better!

9.  If it's a nice day, go outside and sit under a tree.  It will keep you from getting too depressed, and you need the fresh air.  I usually feel better on nice days.

10.  If none of those tips work, say "Forget it!" Go to bed and sleep it off.  Maybe tomorrow will be a better day.

If you have other tips on how to feel better that you would like me to add to this page, please e-mail me and tell me what they are.
