As of October 24, 2001-
I saw my PCP today for a follow up and to get test results from my bone density scan. She told me I have osteopenia which is not as severe as osteoporosis, but is significant bone loss and headed for osteoporosis. This means that I am 2x more likely to develop a fracture than a normal person. Bone loss was apparent in the three areas they checked, spine and hips. Obviously because of my age (23) this is a major concern. She is going to increase the calcium in my TPN, increase the Vitamin D, and wants me to do some light weights on my hands and feet (1 pound weights) when I am sitting at home not doing anything (all the time these days...). She wants me to have the bone density again in a year. I have a Rheumatology appointment at the end of November and follow up with my PCP a couple of weeks after that. I see my GI doc on Oct. 25 (tomorrow). I am still suffering from a lot of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, etc. However, thanks to the increased volume of TPN (1800 cals) and my sedentary lifestyle I have managed to gain a little bit of weight. my GI doc is trying to get my weight out of the danger zone, and then we will work on trying to get back to the tube feedings. For now I am only on TPN for 12 hours a night and only using my j-tube for medication. G-PACT is going fairly well and we still have a few issues to work out, but we are getting very close. |
