October-December 1999 By October I had recovered from the effects of the Parvo virus, and in mid October I visited Marywood University in Scranton and made my decision to go there as a graduate student. I also spent a day at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) working with a child life specialist on the inpatient oncology floor. In November my health deteriorated rapidly. I began suffering from malnutrition, dehydration, and weight loss. Thanksgiving break I started throwing up a lot of food an bile from 12-14 hours earlier. The first Friday in December I went to the ER with concern over low potassium, dehydration, and malnutrition. They started me on new medication and gave me a lot of fluid for re-hydration. I was very sick all of Christmas break and spent the last week of 1999 in the hospital. My doctor ran a lot of tests while I was there, and I had a PICC line placed in my right arm for TPN. I went home the last day of 1999 with the PICC line still in my arm.
